Novelty Intermediate

Novelty Intermediate Week

The Novelty Intermediate course is just as the name implies, this week long intensive course (Novelty 105 and 106) is designed to teach you the structural intermediate skills required to create large standing and moving novelty cakes, this is a HUGE advantage for your cake decorating career either professionally or as a hobbyist as the popularity of these types of cakes has increased massively. Novelty 105, the fantasy tree, teaches students to create an extended complex shape, with a focus on internal construction. In this workshop you will learn the techniques required to structure, sculpt, smooth and cover a complex extended 3D shape. On completing this workshop you will be able to create various extended designs in cake; this is a very important skill for every keen cake decorator as 3D cakes like this are extremely popular. You can alter the theme to whatever you choose there are no limits to the design opportunities; create a fairytale fantasy, a rain forest or a scary Halloween tree! Novelty 106, the Mega Monster Truck, is the first cake in our series that actually moves. In this workshop you will be learning to make a structurally complex, realistic hand painted cake that moves along on all wheels! This is the sixth workshop in our Novelty program; our goal is to teach you the techniques required to structure a cake that requires mid-air board and supports, the focus being on cake construction. In this workshop you will learn the techniques required in building, sculpting and smoothing a 3D cake on mid-air board with a focus on working with different scaffolding materials. You will then learn how to cover the shape, cover seams, and create wheels and decorations. You will also employ many different cake decorating techniques including detailing, making and using templates, painting, airbrushing and hand painting the truck. On completing this workshop you will be able to create complex structures for cakes.
